Broke down on the road... Need help!!

I stopped to get water tonight and when I went to drive back home the starter won't turn over, I tryed messing with the shifter... Nothing!
I even tryed jumping the celinoid with a wrench, the starter turned, but the celinoid wouldn't kick in so it didn't turn the engine over,
I need help fast!

Re: Broke down on the road... Need help!!

Sometimes if the starter turns but the drive doesn't kick in to crank the engine, it will after repeatedly trying, say one in five tries.

If nothing happens when you turn the key to start, then the trouble's in the solenoid circuit. Usually, there's neutral switch, or clutch switch, meaning it has to be in par, neutral, or a manual has to have the clutch pushed in all the way.

You can jump the switch to test. A purple wire comes to mind.

I had a similar problem on a '91 Isuzu years ago. When the solenoid got warm it wouldn't engage. After sitting it would start right up. Autozone checks them for free. Not saying that's your problem just something to think about.

check the ing mod in the dizzy. when the heat up and go bad they won't start till they cool down then the will start again. also could be the fuel pump crapping out. had these symptoms with my truck.

I can't see it being the fuel pump, when I turn the key to turn the engine over I get nothing, like not a sound... All the lights and everything work... It just won't turn

Re: Broke down on the road... Need help!!

check your grounds and positives if they are lose or bad connections you will get lights but no crank. take a breaker bar and try to turn the crank. by the harmonic balancer bolt if it doesn't turn there is something internally wrong(bent/broken/stuck).

Re: Broke down on the road... Need help!!

Got away from the house (and tools) and had this happened. I was able to kick the starter a couple of times and it started. Got home and had a bad connection on the starter. Just a possibility.

If the starter does nothing give it a rap witk a hammer or rock whatever you can hit it with, If it starts you will be needing a starter soon. If when jumping it with a screwdriver you only get the starter tuning but no engagement you need to jump the other terminal that engages the solinoid.

when i was on the side of the road i tried that as well, for some reason i think its a bad connection or a crack somewhere in the solenoid that separates when it gets hot.. ive been driving it everyday for the past three days and havnt had an issue yet.
