Anybody replaced your headliner?

If so, what company did you go with and how was the quality? I am looking into an LMC headliner that is ABS plastic backed instead that pressboard crap.

Thoughts?

If you want the headliner to last and not start sagging over a period of time, have a upholstery shop glue the foam backed headliner material straight to the roof of the truck. It's the same shape as the regular headliner with the pressboard/fiber stuff. You will never have to worry about the headliner coming down again.

Some will say to do it yourself and use the upholstery glue you can buy. This stuff won't hold it for very long. The glue upholstery shops use will, but the average Joe can't buy it.

Thats a good idea. It might be a little cheaper too. Plus, I am going to need a non-oem color too.

I put an LMC headliner in my 87, I'm very happy with the results. I put a new GM headliner in my 84 back in 97, and it still looks like new.

As far as glue to use to put a sagging headliner back up, 90 series 3M adhesive is much much better than the 70 series you typically see. (We use it to recover pool tables and never have problems, it is also what my upholstery shop recommended to me.)

My headliner is original to 1984 and shows no signs of sagging.
Why?.........because my truck is a two-tone with silver on the roof to reflect the heat that makes it sag.

Any one ever seen one of those head liners with the speakers in it? Are they any good? Are they ugly when installed?

Yes, I've seen several. It's called a HighLiner or HiLiner. Can't remember the correct spelling. $200 and that includes the speakers. They're hard to find these days. The last ones I saw were in the Acme Truck Parts catalog. Unless they've changed something in recent years, they're very good quality.

My personal opinion is that they look really sharp.

Well I went to the upholstry shop today and he said that my pressboard it hopeless. He is going to price a new molded headliner in a custom color which will be closer to mine now. Also, it will end up being cheaper than the catalogues.

Mine doesn't have a headliner. It looks like it never did. Or interior light, except for the one under the dash.

i BOUGHT A yARD OF HEADLINER MATERIAL FROM THE UPHOLSTERY shop that was the stock color and type for my 78 Silverado cost for material was 7.00 and the 3M glue was like 11.00. I spent the next 2 hrs removing all of the foam from the board and installed the new one back in 96. This is on a black truck that sits in the sun in the desert every day and it is still tight and not sagging. The stock one lasted from 78 to 96 !!
