Factory Q Jet Carb Rebuild?
I'm thinking about having by factory Q Jet rebuilt and then re-install on my 402BB. Since I'm mechanial deficient...who (company) does a good job of doing this type of work? Once a carb is fully rebuilt is it as good as the new one? Will the performance be the same as new? Is there a company who sales factory reburbished Q Jets? Is this a good idea or bad?

I am gonna try the rebuild route on my Q-jet. Edb has a friend who is gonna show me how it is done. That's assuming they haven't been washed away by tropical storm Bill!

Rebuilding a QJ is cheaper than replacing it and is a fairly simple job. If you make it to the Ohio board gathering I'll show you how, bring it and a rebuild kit and some carb cleaner.

rebuilt quadrajet
We used these guys without hardly a problem. Carb ran great out of the box. I think it was around $145 shipped after $35 core return.

You could pick up a book on Rochester Carburetors by Doug Roe. It shows step by step on properly rebuilding one and also tuning for better performance as well.

Before I got the Doug Roe book, I could not even spell Qjet. I've now rebuilt three with good results.

The Qjet is the best way to go in my opinion, anyways we have a shop in town that specilizes in carbs and the good thing about getting them to do it is they can drill out and bush the primary throttle plate rod so that it is tight again and there is no more slop in the primaries. It only cost me like $75.00 and that was for the full rebuild. So I would check and see if you have one of these shops in your area.

There is a carb specialist here in Milford Oh that just did my neighbors Holley carb. He told him the pre 71 Q-jets used bad pot metal in the castings and the threads were prone to powder away and if that happens then they are junk and can't be rebuilt.
