My project truck
Attached is a picture of what I am considering buying. However, it's not the front grill that I am looking for. Do you know if the fenders can be switched out between chevy and gmc?

Grille can be switched, but it isn't just a grille swap. You'd need new grille, fenders, and hood. Bumper is different also. If you really want it to look like a Chevy, don't forget you'll also have to change tailgate, dash, gauges, and steering wheel. Might be easier to start with a Chevrolet if that's what you really want, but then again, you can really do anything when it comes to modifications!

i havent seen to many of them but it might look cool if he left his gmc original and made it look like that. it would be sweet looking if you chromed your grille and the piece that goes around your grille then blacked out the GMC

Malice - You don't want a GMC you want a Chevy, buy a Chevy. There'll be PLENTY to do on any truck of this age you get....may as well start with a truck you don't have to change into another type of truck. Just my $.02

Figuring that you want to build a mild custom truck out of it you don't have to change the whole list of stuff that Torchlight listed.
You would have to change the hood, fenders, grill (obviously) plus the core support and probably the inner fenders. You also have to change the front crossmember that the radiator support sits on as they are completely different along with the radiator being different.  Personally if I found a great looking GMC like that that had a chrome grill, bumper and the hard to find bumper guard I'd run it wit those goodies and grin like a Chessie cat. If you can't love that one as a GMC I'd have to say leave it for someone who will and hunt for a Chevy. With all the extra deluxe cab chrome and stainless I see it might be better to let a restorer have that one anyhow even as much as I like to customize them that one looks a bit special in that it was ordered out with all the bells and whistles. Finding that truck on Craigslist I see that it isn't a half ton but a one ton dualie. Great looking cab though. For those of you that think crappy paint and rust is "patina" here is a truck with real patina. Notice no rust and no crappy paint, just gently worn old paint that probably will buff up and look great but a bit thin in spots.

I like the GMCs better there aren't as many really nice ones. And even less with the free standing grille.

One thing, That's a nice cab but if you plan to make a half ton pickup out of it and use a Chevy nose you will have paid quite a bit of money for just a cab.

But on the other hand, GMC trucks tend to cost a little more.
I'd say keep looking, you should be able to find an affordable chevy out there. |

Hey that's awesome that you got the truck. Just went into Boise and picked it up. My metal guy at Mciver Custom Fab was going to help me with it but..... I just didn't want to go through the hassle of the switch. Mark does an awesome job so if you aren't far from Boise look him up.
I've been looking over there in eastern washington. You see any old chevy's over there? |
