Removing hangers, SWB

Any tricks or suggestions to taking off the hangers on a SWB? Both tanks are next to the front side of the hangers. Did you take the bed off, or drill out the front ones ect...? Any help is appreciated as I have never done this before.

Grind the heads off, or cut them off the rivets with an air chisel. Then just punch the rivets through. It's not hard either way. I ground the heads off about 40 today and punched them out with a hammer and punch.

The ones up high I just air chiseled the heads off. The rest I cut the heads off and pushed them through

It's easier with the tanks removed and the bed off for sure

Re: Removing hangers, SWB

I removed the bed with a cherry picker and then dropped the tanks. I used a grinder to grind the rivets down and then air hammer them back through the frame.

Don't destroy the hangers or shackles getting them off. About 50 percent of the people who install the shackle/hanger for the 4 inch rear drop put them back on and then do the flip kit. I kind of wish I would have gone with a flip kit. but am happy with the stance for now.

Re: Removing hangers, SWB

I ended up taking the bed off and the cut the rivets, and the ones near the tank I used an air chisel.

Thanks for the advice, I planned on keeping the old parts. I put them in a box with the old spindles. I was going to do a flip kit but the PO took out a leaf spring and I needed to buy a set of springs if I go that route. I may do that in the future though, I am guessing that would make it a little lower..

Re: Removing hangers, SWB

You need to use eight grade bolts to bolt the spring hanger to the frame.
