Any of you score headers at the yard ever?
Was wondering if anyone here has ever scored some headers at the local yards before? I would think that most might be warped, but you never know. I just thought about it and have never thought of looking for any while I was at any of the yards I go to.

I scored a set at the U pull for $15.00. Headman headers had the high temp paint baked off. Checked the flange to ensure that it was straight no huge dents. Been on the truck for 5 years now with no issues.

Believe it or not.... I scored a set of Doug Thorley Tri Y's with the crossover pipe local to us. Keep looking you will find nice stuff, it just has to be at the right time in the right place. You'd be amazed at some of the stuff you will find, especially in the heat of Summer.

I bought a set of Ford FE headers off CL for $40.
The next day I go to pick a part, and they had 3 sets. So I helped pull a set off for a friend with me. If you want good stuff you have to stop in a couple a times a week, and get it when you can. |

Re: Any of you score headers at the yard ever?
There was a rusted out plow truck at the yard awhile ago with edelbrock intake and a set of headers, didn't have a need for either at the time so I left it for someone else to enjoy.
But I did recently score a decent set of hooker long tube super comps off CL for $50. All the paint is burnt off, so I just need to weld on some flanges and o2 sensor bungs and send them to be ceramic coated. |

I've passed on a couple sets since I didn't have a use for them and the yard I was at is a bit pricey. They do carry older stuff though.

Re: Any of you score headers at the yard ever?
I pull a lot of long blocks, and for a while they included exhaust manifolds as part of the long block. So, I would pull headers if they were in the yard to throw onto the engine I was buying. Then, no more exhaust included. I have a set of 3/4 Hedman headers for a 4x4 Suburban and a couple more no-names that I got that way.
I did get a set of stainless (I think) tri-Ys off a truck that will be going into my '68. The funny thing was, they were on the oldest, grimiest stock engined truck you'd ever seen. Everything comes across in the yard, just have to be patient and know what to look for.

I've been to the Hesperia PnP once, when it first opened and it didn't have a good variety. I usually go to the ones off of Airbase Rd. and Hwy 395. I think I paid $30-$40 for them. LOL... all about timing.

Re: Any of you score headers at the yard ever?
Got my Doug Thorley headers (300Y) at pic-a-part here in vegas. $40 no rust and the chrome even still shines in a few places. With a Z they tuck inside the frame perfectly.
