New headers.....wth?
. Got "free" headers from a buddy. Cleaned them up put them on. Exhaust shop said cant help you. These are 2 wheel drive headers and your truck is a 4 wheel drive. Ok since they were free I thought I would just put my manifolds back on. Oh wait turns out they are cracked. Ok for the price of new manifolds I can buy new headers. So I did.... For a 4 wheel drive as well. Well now new headers are rubbing my yoke under breaking. WTH? My buddy says if I lift my truck it should be a non issue. I plan too eventually. Sucks to have to do it now just to make new headers work. I could torch bend them but should you need to with new, correct, headers?
Question is, is this usual? To have to " tweak" new headers to make them work ? Also I am ending up with a passenger side dip stick now and a plug that requires a custom socket to ever change again. Truck is 89 v3500. Headers are headman. Headache is all mine. Posted via Mobile Device Last edited by bojak; 07-16-2013 at 09:02 PM. Reason: I suck. |

Re: New headers.....wth?
Maybe they sent you the wrong set... But i will say my biddy with an 84? K20 got a set and they runned his front driveshaft joint. Few miles later he hit a bump and put one helluva dent in em. No more clearence issues.

Re: New headers.....wth?
I would hav went to a different muffler shop. The place I use regularly at the shop will make anything work if there is room.

Re: New headers.....wth?
That's a big negative Bojak, you shouldn't have to custom fit headers to an application they are designed for. I wouldn't heat them, send them back...

Re: New headers.....wth?
I would sell them and buy 4x4 ones its cheaper in the long run and no headaches.

Re: New headers.....wth?
Check what you ordered, make sure they're for a 4x4. They MAY have sent you the wrong ones, or you may have ordered the wrong ones.
IMO, you shouldn't have to do major tweaks to get them to fit. Dimple a tube, maybe. Hitting the driveshaft, no. The exhaust shop may have said no due to cost. I'm sure they "could" have fixed it, but it may have cost triple the cost of correct pipes. "free" doesn't always save you money.

Re: New headers.....wth?
Update - after sleeping on it I decided to tweak them and get my exhaust run out. Sick of dealing with this at this point. Adapt and overcome or some BS like that.
