Suspension swap question

Hello all. We are purchasing a wrecked 01 silverado and putting the complete drivetrain in our 64 1/2 ton 2wd short box. Is the suspension worth swapping out? Has anyone done it or know of a good link that could help us out? Or is It just more work then it's worth?? Thanks in advance.

Re: Suspension swap question

I think what you need is 73-87 1/2 ton pickup, or 73-90 or 91 van or 2wd suburban. I don't know that anything(suspension wise) from the 01...

Re: Suspension swap question

The '88 and up pickup suspension and brakes is not a simple bolt on as the '71-'87 pickup suspension and brakes is. It is not even close to the same.

The only way to make use of it is to use the entire frame, but I always try and discourage that, especially on the '88+ frames. They are extremely different than the original frame under your truck. There is a guy over on the '67-'72 side that has put his body onto a '88+ frame. He has had to do some extensive body mods to make it work. This same frame swap question was posted within the last week, and I posted a link to that build thread in that thread.

Re: Suspension swap question

Hey Captain, I thought that vans and 2WD burbs would work up to at least 89 or 90. But I haven't been able to verify this, just heresay.

Re: Suspension swap question

In 1987, GM changed the designation from the C and K (10,20 &30) series to the R and V (1500,2500 & 3500) series. Those were used up thru '91 and were still the squarebody style, which still had the same frame used from '73-'86. Those include the K5 Blazers, Suburbans and the 1 ton Crewcabs. I'm not sure about the full sized vans thru '91, as I'm not that familar with them. What I was referring to, is the '88 and newer pickups that underwent a big change in that year.
