Cosmetic differences between 83 & 87?

Besides the headlight doors, is there any other cosmetic differences between an 83 & 87? I have a single rect. headlight 87 with a billet grille. There's an event soon that I would like try and attend in the near future and the cutoff is 83.

Re: Cosmetic differences between 83 & 87?

The factory grille differences between '83 and '87 are the onlyl thing that comes to mind (...well, and the model year designator in the VIN).

Since you've got an aftermarket grille just tell 'em it's an '83 and have fun! The guys on this website are the only ones that will be able to tell any difference.

Pretty sure Keith is correct, only the grille that I can think of.

Just noticed your truck in your avatar, there is no way even a knowledgeable GM person would not know that's not an 83.

The wiper switch on the gauge bezel instead of steering column and floor mounted headlight switch

I can't remember for sure,but doesn't the 83 only have a 5 digit odometer? The 87 will be 6 digits.

Take the "FUEL INJECTION" adhesive emblem off the tailgate if you have one.

Re: Cosmetic differences between 83 & 87?

Most people are not aware of the subtle differences between 81-87 trucks...Most people who don't really know much about GM trucks always think they are way older then they are...

The emblem and the injection are long gone!!! I didn't think there was much of a difference. The main thing I saw was, the grille and the headlight bezels. I've got a new rear and I just want to test the setup and see how it works at the track now.
