Front Disc Brake conversion *Please Help*
I recently did a front brake conversion on my 64, I used spindles off of a later 60s to 70s truck, not sure of the year. The bolt pattern of the rotors is a 5 on 5, I'm looking to convert it to 5 x 4.75 to use the wheels that i want. I've read somewhere you can use a rotor off of a chevelle or another application on the the spindles that i have and it will convert it to a 5 x 4.75. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated

Re: Front Disc Brake conversion *Please Help*
The conversion you are talking about is a bracket that attached to a DRUM brake spindle, and uses a chevelle rotor and camaro caliper.
You would have to put your drum brake spindles back on.

Re: Front Disc Brake conversion *Please Help*
The other option is to use a 73-87 LIGHT DUTY spindle (1" wide rotor),... with a '92 Camaro 1le only rotor.

Re: Front Disc Brake conversion *Please Help*
Personally I would just run a 5x5 wheel.
It's not worth the expense to switch to the 5x4.75 bolt pattern. What are you going to do for the rearend? Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Front Disc Brake conversion *Please Help*
I was planning to switch out the gears, put a posi in it with new axels and possibly narrow it a bit. so with new axels i can have whatever bolt pattern..... that is down the road tho as i am on a budget like everyone here. I bought a new set of wheels this week and my plan is to go flat black with the truck with 3" wide white walls sitting on red corvette rallys with the derby caps and possibly beauty rings. This week I got a great deal on 15 x 10s for the rear and i have 15 x 7s for the front. However corvette rallys are 5 x 4.75, which lies my dilemma.

Re: Front Disc Brake conversion *Please Help*
I would still buy 2 aftermarket corvette style rallys in the 5x5 pattern,... before I would switch the front to 5x4.75.
Just my opinion.

Re: Front Disc Brake conversion *Please Help*
TRANSDAPT makes a 5x5 to 5x4.75 adapter to do what you want. Here's the kicker: they are 1.25" wide each.
P/N 3614 $125/pr

Re: Front Disc Brake conversion *Please Help*
My opinion,... Spacers/adapters will make the front track width too wide.

And in that picture, both front and rears have spacers, i am thinking just go 73-80 whole swapper-oo and have them plugged and redrilled to fit my 5x4.75 rallies...

Re: Front Disc Brake conversion *Please Help*
Can't you just have the rims drilled for both sizes?

Re: Front Disc Brake conversion *Please Help*
I've never heard of someone having their wheels drilled for a second bolt pattern. I've seen wheels from the manufacturer with dual bolt patterns. It would be more cost effective to just change the rotors as described in the thread I linked to.

Re: Front Disc Brake conversion *Please Help*
Just a heads up, you might want to verify what the bolt pattern is on the 15x10's. Stock Vette rallies were never available in a 10" width, only in the 8". That would mean they are either widened stock wheels or aftermarket and could be 4.75" or 5x5 bolt pattern ...

Re: Front Disc Brake conversion *Please Help*
I've seen wheels re-drilled but its not really that simple. Most of the time it is part of a much larger custom wheel job. I.e. I've seen custom shops take a rare factory wheel, and put it in a new hoop/barrel and widen it, then re-drill to work with a differennt platform...but its not simple machine work. Some patterns can't be re-drilled, some wheels don't have room on the mounting face without actually trying to fill in the old holes (nightmare).
