Sand Blaster

Has anyone here tried the Harbor frieght pressure sandblaster ? They have a large capacity one on sale for about $130 this month. This will be for my personal occasional use only...not for commercial use. I have a large cap. air compressor w/ a 90gal. tank.

Re: Sand Blaster

Welcome to our tool room 72bowtiestepper!

From on-line appearance & specs, they appear OK but I haven't owned one.
Hopefully, someone that does have one will speak up.

Otherwise, check our thread "The Good, The Bad and Ugly from Harbor Freight".

I realize you may not want to slog through 5 pages but, if you shop at Harbor
Freight often, you might find the thread helpful.

Looking forward to the feedback my self! Subscribed.

Thanks novafrog.....I appreciate the input. Like many on this site have said, things at HF can be good or bad. Their sandblaster looks very similiar to the one that Eastwood sells. I think that all of them are made in China.

Thats a good lookin' Nova you have there !!

Re: Sand Blaster

they are not bad units they work pretty good, but after some use the valves do wear out but they are easyly replaceable.
just be sure too strain your media to get the big chunks out. dumping the tank because of a clog isnt any fun.

Re: Sand Blaster

If you need a good blaster thats Made In USA check out the Barrel Blaster made one at a time in Texas and the are reasonably priced .I dont yet have one but will eventually ,they are a small family owned company. I am not affiliated with them just like that it is American made.

Re: Sand Blaster

whatever blaster you get the most important thing is dry dry dry air// the drier your air the less clogs and backups you have

Re: Sand Blaster

I have one and struggle with it. I will look at the media I have for sure but it is the black stuff I got from HF the same time. It seems really really slow.
I used it this weekend and noticed any larger flaking paint seemed to get stuck in the tube or something I had to screen it and helped a little.
What would you recommend?

Re: Sand Blaster

I recently borrowed the same model. It worked good. Took some screwing around with the pressure and valves, but otherwise worked well. Buy the pack of replacement nozzles at the same time, they wear out fairly quick. I found that 90 psi worked best. Also the hose wears thru but you can just cut that back as needed.

Re: Sand Blaster

Thanks for all the reviews and tips guys...I am going to try the HF blaster. With the 20% off coupon, it should be only a little over $100 for the 110 lb. one. I will let you all know how it works after I play with it for awhile.

Re: Sand Blaster

I bought one several years ago because I did not want to spend $700+ for one from Cyclone Manf. in MI (my buddy has one from them and it is nice) The one I got is the style with the recessed top and is easy to fill. I lay a window screen over the top and it works good with play ground sand from Lowe's Hardware. I do not like using the Black blaster material because it is hard to strain and makes a mess but it might be ok. I recommend buying the extended warranty for a few more dollars. The first thing I tried to clean was a bare frame. I did not even get it done and wore a hole in the hose several times and then wore holes in the nozzle and the tee at the bottom of the tank. I used the warranty and traded it in for a new one but then went to Cyclone Manf. and bought their tee, hose and nozzle. Spent around $300.00 with a new helmet I think but it has been a great blaster ever since. I used it this last weekend and cleaned 2 bed sides and 2 rear fenders for my 46 Chevy.

Like stated before, make sure and strain the material and keep everything dry. I have a water trap at the compressor and the blaster tank.

Re: Sand Blaster

I've had mine for several years, and haven't had any problems. I've used it for etching glass, adding texture to wood projects, and metal parts prep. I've found that fine, white silica sand from the lumber yard works great in it. Just make sure to wear a respirator.
