46 Custom truck interiors

I am looking for ideas for customizing my truck interior. I don't like the metal strips that cover all the seams and the screws and I am looking for an alternative. Any ideas or pictures you may have would great.

Re: 46 Custom truck interiors

I am close to doing my '53 Chevy truck interior. I am going to order a full headliner from Classic Parts. It is made from ABS plastic. I will cover it with fabric. ABS is pretty amazing stuff. You can heat it and form it. You can paint it or spray adhesive on it and use thin foam and fabric to cover it. I will use it to form up the area behind the seat as well as for the door frames. I plan on covering all the metal except for the dash.

Re: 46 Custom truck interiors

Looks grate. I want to do the same to my seat but will have to let some one else do that because I could never do that. When you installed your front fenders, grill etc. did you put them all togeather and then install them on truck or did you install one at a time on the truck. This is all new to me and I try to ask questions as I go. I put a tci front end on mine and had some one else do all of the welding I also put in a 292 inline 6, 700r4, moved radiator inside radiator frame, camaro rear end and new floor pan. It takes me for ever to do these things becaues I do and redo every thing several times befor I get it the way I wan't it. I am also a retired contractor. Good luck on your build Don

no you need to assemble it on the truck, not like the later models that you can pull the whole doghouse off

Did you cover the stock door panels, or build new ones?

Re: 46 Custom truck interiors

Actually I ordered an ABS headliner from one company (other than Classic Car Parts) and it did not fit. It was not the suppliers fault. The fault lies with the company who manufactured the part. I even called them and they were unwilling to take the part back even though they made it. Their reason was that I had bought it from someone else. The people they sold it to. Rod Doors in CA has the only parts for my '53 Chevy truck that will fit correctly (headliner, door panels and behind the seat panel). I am going to let my upholstery guy tell me what he is going to use and work it out with him. A lot of those guys use Luan plywood as well. I may end up getting a 4' x 8' piece of ABS for the rear (behind the seat) panel and use a one foot diameter round roll to form the curve using a heat gun. That is the beauty of ABS in that you can heat it up and form it. When it cools it stays in that shape.
