Another Suburban for me

And not my first. My wife's daily driver is a 2009 GMC Denali XL, my daily driver is a 2013 Suburban 2500 4x4, and I've been fixing up a 1971 Suburban 4x4 for the past year or so.

A seller near me has been trying to sell his 35k-mile 1991 V1500 Suburban 4x4, so I went to look at it. Loved it; near showroom condition. I originally passed on it, and then spent two weeks thinking about it while I took a vacation. When I came back, I said "screw it" and bought it at a high price, but way lower than his asking.

An old man in Victoria, Texas bought it, put then 34k miles on it from 1991 to 2012 - always garaged. The next owner bought it from his estate, but then rarely drove it - always garaged again. Now I have it. This is how it was when I bought it:

Those white-wall tires are the original factory set from 1991. So I drove directly from the Seller's house to Discount Tire where I had 31" BFGs put on and they were nice enough to remove the fiberglass running boards.

It's heavily optioned, comes with all the original books, interior is about perfect, engine bay has never been cleaned, and it drives tight without any squeaks. I plan on leaving it alone for the most part - needs speakers, an iPhone hookup, and tint windows. I plan on using it as a semi-daily driver alongside my 2013.

The 1971 Suburban 4x4 is now for sale; has to be because I have no more space.

Beautiful rig. Much better without the running boards. Did they do any damage to the paint?

I was afraid it was going to have something hidden that was really going to piss me off, but there was only one rubbed spot on the front driver's side. A worthy trade-off to getting those hideous things removed.

I ran the RPO codes today and found that this truck is very loaded - oil cooler, tranny cooler, quad shock option (didn't know this existed), skid plates on transfer case and fuel tank, all power options, G80 posi, and a 3.42 rear (which I want because I'm a Texas highway runner more than a hard-core off-roader).

Anyone know the best way to hook up an iPod connection to the existing factory deck?

Re: Another Suburban for me

I remember the tape deck adapters that go in the stereo and have a 1/8" output to plug into your headphone jack.

You can have an aftermarket stereo installed that would sound a lot better and have bluetooth for cheap. Use wiring harness adapters and keep the old stereo if you really think you ever want to go back to stock.

That truck is about perfect. Nice score.

Re: Another Suburban for me

I'd be interested to see some pictures of how the rear wing/deflector mounts and if it is the same as the ones that came on the K5 Blazers.

Here's the pic of the rear deflector mount. I'd assume it's the same for Blazers, but bolted into the fiberglass top.
