Electric choke help

Ok so i have a 625 road demon jr. that came with a manual choke, so this is my problem; the original quadra puke had a manual choke but it had been pulled out and jimmy rigged buy the time i had gotten the truck. I dont know wear the choke cable goes so i keep having trouble with it binding up wear ever i put it and i don't want to drill holes in my dash to find the right place. So how hard is it to wire up an electric choke? i have a 78 and i don't know if there is an easy way or a hard way. Can somebody help me!

You can do an electric conversion. Just wire the choke up to keyed power or the Alt and you should be good

I have never found electric or hot air chokes to be reliable. I converted all my squares to a manual choke. Using a $12 kit from the auto parts store, I found it easy to route the choke cable so that it did not bind up. I routed mine behind the distributor and through the large rubber grommet near the steering column, then just drilled two small holes to support the bracket holding the choke knob - not visible unless you are lying on your back looking up at the dash.

With a manual choke, you always know when the choke is on or off.

Could u get some pics for me? the way i have it now i can close my choke but it wont open it. It just stops working.

I posted a description with pics here about a year ago, but I can't find it now. I will try to get a few pics when I am able to.

It is a very simple install. You get an adapter to replace the choke housing with an external lever which operates the choke lever in the carburetor. A set screw attaches the cable to the pin on the adapter, and that runs to a knob under the dash. Even I could do it. Just make long sweeps and not short turns with the cable. The truck model has a very long cable, so you have plenty of slack to route it anywhere.

Might be just as easy to post a pic of the set up on your carb. Likely it's something easy to fix if we could see it!

OK got it now! this is one coming out of the fire wall and a pick of the carb.

Should be able to find a better place to run that cable thru. Too many kinks that way.
Do you know how to hook the cable up to the carb?

There are way to many sharp bends in the cable for it to work properly. I don't know why the lever on the firewall is necessary.

The kits I have used have an angle bracket which attaches with one of the valve cover bolts and sticks up about 3 inches above the intake manifold, then makes a big loop behind the distributor and another big loop through the firewall near the steering column, then a slight curve to the under dash location - I have mine on the right side of the steering column near the edge of the instrument panel.

Batteries are dead on the camera, so it will be a while until I get you the pics.

That Demon choke housing and lever looks better than the kit setup, so I would just use that instead of the bakelite adapter you get with the kit.

First, im not to positive as to how to hook it up. I made an educated guess and it closes the choke but it wont open in. So if you have any tips pleas let me know!

Second, tucsonjwt can you tell me wear i can find this kit you are talking about because it sound like that might be a good solution.

Also would i just drill a hole in the fire wall and run it through that?
