67 Paint code and other options.

Hi,
I'm trying to determine the original color of my '67 LWB. The paint code on the glove box door is 557AA. One of the other options on the sticker indicates "CAB FAWN TRIM". The cab interior metal is a greenish/gold metallic (probably "fawn") but the exterior and the inside of the engine bay/under hood are all painted a pinkish "flesh tone"...maybe "Palomino Tan" which MIGHT be paint # 527. The pink stuff has been resprayed at some point so the color match may not be close. The top of the cab is white.
Any clues as to what the original color was?

Also, there is an option called "FWHEELS" that has 2470547 next to it. What does that mean?

Thanks everyone,

C

Thanks for the info....I still can't figure out what a 557AA is, though.

Fawn is the tan interior trim. It refers only to the vinyl parts like seats, dash pad, visors, etc. Usually the interior steel paets in the cab were painted the same as the exterior.

It could be that your truck was a fleet vehicle of some kind and recieved a "custom" color from the factory? Is there any mention of "special order" or a # next to the S/E box on the glovebox sticker?

I'd like to see pictures of ths truck and the options sticker.

One other note, does the glovebox VIN match the cab VIN?

Nothing in the SE box. The numbers, VIN, Engine, Tranny all match. I'll try to get some more pics up later today. Here is all I have for now...

You know what you have? Its a corral pink GMC. Some sort of anniversary edition they had, in Canada only I believe! I'm so excited my details are sketchy as to the exact reason for the special paint but it's a rare bird! Far more rare than the 68 Chevy Ann. Edition!

More pics and history on it please!!!

I'll get more pics posted later today. I've owned it less than a week. According to the previous owner there was only one other owner....someone in Tennessee.

The interior metal and door panels are all the "Fawn" color. The visors, seat and dash pad are black.

Is there something on the VIN# that would indicate that it was a Canadian model?

I don't want to spread misinformation but something about Coral Pink GMC's and Canada sticks in my mind. It marked some sort of milestone or anniversary. I;ve searched all over the web but can't find anything, but I do know the paint is original and rare/67 GMC only thing. The VIN should indicate plant manufactured. Oshawa ON was the place. Can you post VIN (excluding last 5 digits)?

Would like to see pick of glove box options sticker too.

Sorry about being "excited". I'm a trivia nut on these and this one has my interest peaked, mainly because I can't nail it down. Thanks.

The Model # on the glove box is the same as the VIN. The last four are in red typeface though.

Okay, I'm stumped. From CM1590DCxxxxA, I get:

C=2wd
M- V-six
1 - 1/2 ton
59 - ???
OD - Fleetside
C- 1967
xxxx- vin sequencem (not 5 or 6 digits? Hmmm?)
A - ???

Now the A could mean Atlanta plant, but that's a bit far from Canada, eh?

Anyone got any ideas?

The paint codes I posted were for Chevy's. I didn't know it was a GMC when I posted it.

Ok, I'm a bonehead.

The VIN is CM1590DPCxxxxA on the door jamb.

The Model # is CM 1590D C xxxx on the glove box.

The xxxx are the same. On the glove box, they are in red.

I was leaving out the "P"earlier in the thread.

Sorry for the confusion. I'm trying to work from home, do conference calls, coordinate the house painter, control three boys, AND play with my new truck.

I just remembered that the clerk at the DMV said she thought it might've been registered as a military vehicle at one time. She didn't know exactly what the "military" indicator meant, so I figured she was mistaken....

The model # has me stumped as to how to decode the assembly plant.

I did a little research and GMC did roll the first truck off the Oshawa assembly line in 1927. 1967 would have been 50 years of truck production there. Something in my clouded memory makes me believe that a few pink GMC's were produced and sent to canadian dealers to commemorate this. Why pink? I have no clue but I gotta believe you've got one of them. Wanna sell it?

Thanks for all your help and research. I'd love it if this was something really unique like that....would really be fun.

My conservative (skeptical?) nature reminds me that:
1) The truck has been resprayed...who knows how close the current color matches the original.
2) The interior cab color doesn't match the body and bed;
3) The engine bay and under hood DO match the exterior but is much more subdued....could be age (it didn't get resprayed) or the color could be different.

Anyway, hope we can find the answers....

I really don't think it is quite the "Coral Pink" in the pictures. I have the 67 GMC paint chips and it is very close to the Palomino Tan color #527. But the paint code on glove box says 557AA.

here is a link to a forum on the VIN problem we GMC Owners are facing. Apparently know one can help us. I think it may have something to do with fleet vehicles. Mine was a lockheed fleet stripper truck.

the truth is out there....

It looks like Palomino Tan #527 to me.
I think the second 5 points to the two tone option.
Maybe a special order though:

Maybe its my monitor but it looks pink to me. It's got a lot of trim options for a fleet vehicle (Custom Cab, chrome trim, bumper guards, etc) but who knows.

Interesting truck none the less, maybe 557 is 2 tone palomino like Hutch thinks.

More pics please!

Thanks,
Probably was the previous owner...he lived in Valrico and worked in Temple Terrace.

We've got it up in Dade City, now.
