gears....?

i havnt posted in a while, been super busy with work and my truck hasnt broke on me, sunday i had to replace the universal joints (again!!)...my truck is a 84 k10 with 4-6 inches of lift...i put 4-6 because im not really sure which one it is im pretty sure they sent me a 6 but i ordered a 4, anyhow, i go through u-joints pretty often, I've 3 or 4 of them in 3 years time, not too bad i dont think at 8 bucks a piece or so, kinda getting off track here a bit, but with my lift im running 35's and got a th350 trans with a older 350 (about 150-250 thousand miles, not sure how many times its flipped but the previous owner said it was original) its pretty tired any how but running good, this thing is a slug, but i like it, someday i want to put a 700 in it due to mileage, but for the mean time im looking to swap gears, looking into 410's i just drive back and fourth to work, but like to play as well, just looking for some advice, ive had this truck for a few years and enjoy it, im just poking the bush really

Re: gears....?

i would put some 3.73s in it and double check your driveline angle since you are burning up u joints

ya, its still sitting stock, i need to bring it up some, but luckily when i was replacing the rear i checked the front (which need replacing as well) but the yolk that has the four bolts up by the transfer case were loose and about to fall out!!! so i tightened them up and made my truck alot smoother....along with replacing the rear u-joints

this is the second set of axles thats been under my truck, the stock ones where 3.08's as well, so when i put the second ones under there and they turned out to be 3.08's as well i was freakin pis**d!!! the guy said they where 3.73's...so mad

Re: gears....?

Are your u joints greasable? Most of my lifted trucks have grease nipples in the joints & I have over 50,000 miles on the 86 since I got it without changing them. This is 4" lift.Do like meat wagon suggested & put in 3:73s or even 4:10s....

Re: gears....?

ok this is the best way i have found to figure gears go find a gear calc online and put in the trans tire and tcase info and play with it. you will want depending on your motor around a 2200cruse speed for the motor. your cruse speed should be in the power band that way your not shifting all the time and not luging it down either
