Short-Wide?

This'll be a quick one folks...

What is the difference, if there is one, between a short fleetside bed and a short-wide fleetside bed? I've heard the short-wide thrown around a few times, and the fella I bought my bed from said it was a short-wide. I've never seen in a catalog, bed parts for 'short' then 'short-wide'. Are these two terms just used interchangeably, or is there really 2 kinds of beds out there? Did they go 'wide' in a particular year? Just wondering, trying to feed the random info machine. Thanks all.....

No such thing as Short-wide. Common misconseption is that SWB is "short wide bed". It's actually short wheel base.

My Short Wide Bed is Wider than your Short Step Side Bed. I believe this is where the term comes from. I've always called them either a Short/Long Wide or A Short/Long Step It DOES mean Short wheel base but I like to call mine a Short Wide. You say Tomoto I say Tomato

Just my 2c

I agree, it depends on where you live. Around here we call shortbed fleetsides shortwides and we call shortbed stepsides simply a stepside. And I know SWB means short wheelbase and LWB means long wheelbase but this is just what we have always called them.
