Re: Cleaning whitewalls
I use Mr Clean Magic Erasers on my Diamondbacks and it works amazing to clean brake dust and road grime off dirty white walls. They are just a sponge but with a little soap and water and a little scrubbing action get them sparkling white. Remember to never use any bleach!

Re: Cleaning whitewalls
I use Westley's Bleche-Wite whitewall cleaner. You don't need a stiff brush to use it so it is easy on the tire sidewall and works great. You can get it at any of the auto parts outlets.
Let me add: Clean the black part of the tire with Bleche-Wite also, and don't try to apply black tire dressing to the black part of the tire. It will yellow the white wall if it gets on it. |

Re: Cleaning whitewalls
Back when I was young I used SOS pads and they did a good job. I've used Westley's on my daily drivers that had white walls but some folks think it isn't that good for the whitewalls.

Re: Cleaning whitewalls
Bingo, my daughter is using that combo on here white seats to bring them back to life. Mr. Clean magic eraser is amazing. Simple green is my go to cleaner from degreaser at full strength to 1:20 for regular cleaning or in between depending on the crud level.

Re: Cleaning whitewalls
just an fyi, magic erasers are actually a form of sanding. soap and water is the best formula. a degreaser would be next option. but magic erasers are going to actually sand the whitewalls, of course this is extremely minor...but if you get into the habit of doing this all the time you are going to thin the whitewalls to the point where they are no longer resilient to scuffs and stains and there for actually causing them to be more likely to get dirty.

Re: Cleaning whitewalls
Whamo from Car Brite is the best stuff I've ever used. Amazing stuff. Water based and easy on the tires.

Re: Cleaning whitewalls
Broey is correct. Magic erasers are amazing but they are simply sponges impregnated with an abrasive that is comparable to soft scrub. Still, I use them. On my white walls and they do a great job. If you did it every week for years then yeah maybe you will start creating a problem. Used them on my Harley whitewalls also for years with no issues.
