Raising the Zombie 1970 Short
Heres the start of a long journey. I found this rough jewel in a local salvage yard and thought it would be worth a shot. The last time it was tagged was in 1998 and as far as I know it has been sitting since.

Re: Raising the Zombie 1970 Short
Sorry I didn't get much of a intro in. Had to post the pics quick so I could head to work. So I'm not sure what drew me to this truck, because behind it was a 71 in a lot better condition. I guess I wanted to start with more bare bones and build it up from there so that I know every nook and cranny would be covered. Anyway. This truck by the looks of it was originally a straight six three on the tree that the PO took out and put in an 8 cyl possibly a 350. Ill post more pics later but the rockers, cab corners and door bottoms are all victims of the rust bug and will have to be replaced. All the typical stuff for a junkyard dog. The frame is pitted in the top from 15 years or so of weathering without a bed but is fixable. My plans are for a frame up custom build. Nothing too radical though. I want an awesome look but I don't want to chop up the frame and go extreme. It has a six lug drum set up that I plan on changing to 5 lug discs and we will go from there.

Re: Raising the Zombie 1970 Short
You will find out sometimes less is more. More parts means there more potential for rust repair.....ask me how I know. Good luck with your project. my favorite year too

Re: Raising the Zombie 1970 Short
Thank you sir! I have a tbi 350 and a turbo 400 I'm planning on sticking in there after I go through it and put in some go fast gear lol this will be a somewhat free time build, in between the honey dos and the everyday stuff, but sometimes it's hard because I want to see it done!

Re: Raising the Zombie 1970 Short
managed to get the clip off today and get the trash out of the cab. When I took the heater box off it was FULL of acorns and a rat nest lol. Just glad the rats have moved out.

Re: Raising the Zombie 1970 Short
All in all, the floor wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The cab corners are bad as well as the rockers. also found some rot under the cowl. Also it looked like the PO put a floor shifter in it when he swapped to an automatic.

Re: Raising the Zombie 1970 Short
Well, I have million dollar ideas on a shoestring budget. So a lot of things will have to come after she's roadworthy. I know ill be doing a five lug disc conversion soon. Power brakes power steering with a rack setup like yours. I really like the look of the newer stepside bed on these trucks so that's in the works as well other than that I'm pretty open to suggestion and ideas that I see on other builds. I don't want to copy a bunch of people, but y'all have some great ideas that I think I would like to see on my truck as well!

Well you will be known from now on as the Savior of the 70.
I wish I would have started with as little. Looks to be a great start for an awesome build. Keep the updates coming!

Re: Raising the Zombie 1970 Short
I've also been entertaining the idea of a candy red top coat. It'll give it a pretty unique look.. Not sure yet though might do a test piece first and see how it goes

I should have the cab off this weekend and the five lugs put on the front. I'm helping my neighbor with his 67 so I'm having to split my weekends lol
