What is up?
Now things are progressing well with my truck, moving right along on cleaning out the fuel system in preparation to getting it back on the road and I'm learning lots of new things here BUT.
A friend and I tried to push it backwards the other day...it was in neutral with the brake off and it only rolled about an inch and no more. Is it just that heavy (1972 swb) or is something wrong you think? It's been sitting in a garage for 7 years. I'm 5'9" 164 lbs and my friend is 6' but slimmer than I am. |

Re: What is up?
Put a jack under the rear axle 'chunk' and see if the wheels turn freely.. check the fronts one side then the other.
I agree it sounds like a brake is rusted up.. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: What is up?
You know, I bet that's it, which is what I first thought when it happened. My dad had let this truck sit for some 10 years once before and he said the brakes were rusty. He just drove it till they freed!
So....if the drums are rusted, I assume I'd be looking at a complete drum tear down and then having the drums turned? Ditto for the discs maybe? Replacing some parts? I really don't want to get this thing towed...on the positive side, it isn't going to be easy to steal! Especially given that I removed the seat, fuel thank, and battery.... |
