63-66 front cross member into 61?

At first glance It looks like the front cross member for 63-66 will bolt into a 61 frame. I want to ditch the torsion bars and switch over to coils. Anyone know if this works?

Re: 63-66 front cross member into 61?

Since any 73-87 front suspension will fit into any 60-66 yes it will fit, I’ve just never heard of anyone doing this. The newer suspension has the advantages of the rubber control arm bushings and disc brakes, but I can see why someone might want to retain the drum brakes. You’d gain the advantage of tapered roller bearings on the spindles (if a 61 doesn’t already have them) and elimination of the torsion bars.

Here’s a thread showing what it took to swap over my 1960 GMC to a 1975 Chevy front suspension, which might prove helpful.

well the main reason is I have a complete 64 chassis sitting at my house so since the parts are there might as well use them right? Thank you for the link.
