Re: smoked headlights
Those would look rather silly on an AD truck wouldn't they? The only guys who run smoked headlights around this area are those who think Autozone is a customizing center.

Re: smoked headlights
we smoke or tint headlights all the time, using tinted clear over the new plastic headlamp covers found on newer cars and trucks.
also rod & custom recently ran an article on tinting headlights. it's usually done with 4 headlight vehicles, ad trucks are not that cool they used tinted clear and clear on top of that. not sure it's legal with single headlight trucks. ignore the nay sayers

Re: smoked headlights
But really, I could see a low two tone grey (lighter body with darker fenders) AD with smoked headlights.
I don't think it would work as well on a 4wheel drive though. JMHO. Last edited by mknittle; 07-28-2013 at 10:25 AM. |

Re: smoked headlights
I've seen some people use this before. But I don't know if I'd trust it on glass.

Re: smoked headlights
I think if done right it could be used to tone down one of the biggest bright spots on the front of the truck.

Re: smoked headlights
Bare in mind that smoking is bad for your health while looking cool it cuts your light output and you may miss something at night.
Its most likely illegal everywhere. Don't get me started on smoked Tail Lights ..... at least if you do, mount a set of LED stop/tail lights under the bumper that aren't smoked.

Re: smoked headlights
Living in a town where there a lot of guys who think customizing is blacking out tail lights and putting smoked covers over head lights along with adding a variety of Auto zone stick on chome doo dads I can tell you that it's hard to see them from either end at times.
The other thing is that most of us who really drive our trucks and cover a lot of ground with them want all the headlight we can get so we can see far enough down the road at night and clear enough to see that deer, cow, coyote or piece of junk that was a recliner before it fell off someone's pickup or trailer because it wasn't tied down. Putting tint on marginal lights and cutting the light down more just because you think the lights are too shiny when you park the truck is , heck I don't have a good answer for that. Unless you are just a daylight driver who only drives to local shows and gets home before dark. Think about it the next time you drive the truck. How well can I see down the road now at night and how well would I be able to see if I cut the light output by a fourth or more?

Re: smoked headlights
im surprised at the negativity for this subject. i just think that for some style of trucks the HID smoked headlights would be a good look. The HID smoked lights i have seen are brighter than your average non smoked headlights so im not worrying about vision being a problem. Plus it is also something you never see on these old trucks and i dont know about you guys but i dont want my truck to look like every other AD going down the road

Re: smoked headlights
I think we have been trying in rather kind words to explain the reason you don't see them on these trucks for the most part. Sorry if that sounds negative but it may be better than have your truck be the laughing stock of the first show you take it to with smoked headlights on it.

Re: smoked headlights
For what I have planned, I like the lights mknittle posted, ,and I really doubt anyone would laugh at it..., matter of fact, I smoked, clear lenses, for park lights on the old green 67 camaro, the clear/white was just too bright, and I red tinted the backups,,,( rs camaro). And made them into additional brake lights.
Everyone loved the custom touches... Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: smoked headlights
Ok, maybe HID lights with a smoked type lens. My thoughts were on the line of this tint film that some of the local guys stick on their headlights and tail lights a lot.
