what kind of tilt column should i get?

i need a new tilt column. i have a 69 column shift. i like the chrome restofit ones, (flaming river, ididit) but i dont really want to spend 800$. i wouldnt mind a black or paintable 1, or a rebuilt 1. i heard some of the universal ones dont fit correctly so im a lil hesitant to get 1. what do you guys have? any info will help

Re: what kind of tilt column should i get?

theres a post on here about columns. be careful because most are unsafe junk. flaming river and idiit are some of the few that arent death traps. might be better getting a rebuilt one from a board member.

Forum member "Kev's Classic's" can hook you up with a stock totally refurbished one that will give you the factory correct look and be much cheaper than $800.00, if I was able to load pic's I could show a dozen that he has done for me alone, his work is second to none!

Beware of aftermarket columns that are made in other countries. They can be dangerous. I installed an Ididit column and I really like it.

its not a tilt. there are rebuilt ones on there? or are you saying buy one and then send it to him. i will go see what is there, but it seems like it costs much more to buy 1 then pay kevin.

The ones on the parts board may not need rebuilding...

Great article and I highly suggest anyone thinking about an aftermarket column read this before they make a purchase. It definitely turned me away from the column I had intended to buy.

Re: what kind of tilt column should i get?

True story, I had a member contact me for a tilt. Cores are hard to come by so I was out of stock. He waited and waited then got impatient and bought a rebuilt unit from a well known vender. Long story short he went to install it and ran into nothing but problems. I tried to walk him through repairing it himself till he got so frustrated he bought one from me trailered his truck over for me to install it and sold me the other one for next to nothing. Now he's a happy camper ever since.
