Hello, New Guy here.
I own a 1972 K20 in great shape and wanting to make some changes to her. Like paint, lift, rims tires and build a more powerful small block for it.
The truck was stored in a garage for 16 years with only 200 miles on a rebuilt 350. The paint is in great shape along with ever other part of it. Yep in a garage for 16 years, Great find I must say. Had me jumpin' for joy! Oh and the seller gave me a nice 350 four bolt main with .202 heads for nothing. My Girlfriend and I wanted a truck to do some cruising around in and a little romancing in the foot hills of the cascades. Anyway I registered here to get some technical advice and tips when needed. Other than the wheels, I love it! Maybe add VA A/C system. Put some speed parts in the current 350 if it that low mileage. It's beautiful just like it is.

From one fellow new guy to another, I wouldn't lift that truck OR paint it, its beautiful as it sits but that's just my personal tastes I guess. I'm all for a more powerful engine and new wheels though. Congrats on scoring that beautiful truck and good luck!

Nice Truck!
You could make it a two tone, and paint the center band, and the top white. Two tone 4X4's look great. Keep the ride height, and hang some steelie's on it. I like the chrome dock bumper, but the diamond plate has to go. Fuel injection is a great mod for 4WD's if you're going to be off-roading, plus it could make the fuel economy a little more bearable. If it were mine, I'd want to cut it down. A SWB K20 would be fun.

Wow, thank for making me feel so welcome.
The girlfriend and I took the truck out to run some errands to an auto part store and a paint shop. The truck is very sound mechanically, But has some small issues that need attention like leaking oil from Rear diff, transmission and or transfer case. Also the steering needs to be tightened up. The truck wanders, but not that bad. I would like tighter steering. On the way back home from errands we hopped out, locked the hubs and did some light 4 wheeling over some freshly cleared land. The truck did great off road. No grinding gears or hub noise. Man I love that feeling of having my woman sitting right next to me while driving. The Dierks Bently lyric " I was thinking ‘bout a little white tank top sitting right there in the middle by me" has come true for me The fixes and upgrades I need and want are; 1. Fix all the leaks: Tranny, Transfer Case, Rear Diff 2. Remove diamond plate on the bed 3. Clean/paint undercarriage; But I don't want to take the truck apart. 4. Paint: Top of cab, and center band white, like "jhwkns" Mentioned. 5. Lift: 4" suspension lift 6. Rims; maybe 18's or smaller. I like the MORE tire look. Meaty tires are awesome. 7. Tires; I don't know yet what style or brand yet. 8. Install A/C someday. 9. Turn the free 4 Bolt SB I got in to a High compression Fuel injected 383 someday. Can anyone recommend in which order I should do the upgrades? John |

Nice truck and Welcome to the board! It has a number of apparent changes from original as it sits and for me I'd probably return that to a very stock looking truck. If you want to post up a SPID I can break it down for you.
Probably the best place to start is a full fluid change and brake inspection. If it has been sitting that long everything needs to be changed including the brake fluid.
