Rebel wiring and a brake switch

This is the only bit of wiring I have left is to hook up the brake switch to this Rebel wiring harness. It seems like it should be pretty easy, orange wire on 1 side, white on the other and it should work right? Nope. I don't have any brake lights. Anyone have suggestions?

Re: Rebel wiring and a brake switch

Make sure there is power to one of the wires. If not, trace back up the line to the fuse panel with a test light or meter until you get power. Make sure a good fuse is in the correct location. Sounds silly, but I'm doing wiring right now and yesterday I spent 1 to 2 hours trying to find out why my AC harness wasn't working only to find out that I read AC/heat on the fuse panel and put the fuse below the writing when it should have been above. DUH! Changed the fuse and everything worked perfectly. If you do have power to the switch, press the pedal and make sure power goes through the switch. If not replace the switch. If it does, bypass the switch by connecting the two terminals together and work towards the brake lights with a test light or meter until you find out where the voltage stops. Then fix.

Re: Rebel wiring and a brake switch

On some columns, like my 82 eldo one, the brake wiring comes from the column to the switch then to the brake lights.

On my rebel harness the key has to be on to get the brake lights to work.

Re: Rebel wiring and a brake switch

do your blinkers work?
brake lights are the same as your turn indicator lights
everything is controlled by the blinker switch
check for 12v+ at the switch and then follow the instructions on wiring your tail lights
all wires feed into the blinker switch and then out to all 4 corners of your truck
3 hot wires in: brake switch, flasher and hazard flasher; all feed 12v+ into the switch

Re: Rebel wiring and a brake switch

Everything works except the brake lights. I have tail lights, signals and hazards. I'm thinking its the brake switch itself.

Then try a jumper wire, I had to do that with neutral safety switch to prove it was toast. Good luck dubie.

Re: Rebel wiring and a brake switch

I found the problem. I didn't have 12v power going to the turn switch. My hazard lights wouldn't turn on without the key being on and so, the same thing should go for the brake switch, seeing how it powers the brake switch.

Re: Rebel wiring and a brake switch

Hmmm guess my idea didn't work after all. When I feed 12v power into the switch via the rebel hazard wire, the lights flash with the switch being turned off.
For the brakes, I have 1 white wire in the signal switch group that says brake lights. Then I have an orange wire and a white wire which are both labelled brake switch. Should the white brake light wire be tied into the signal stat 900 switch with the orange wire going to the hot side of the switch and the other white wire coming out of the switch?

I may have required this entire truck, but it's all still Greek to me, I appreciate all the help I can get peeps. This is the last major thing this truck needs to have figured out before it goes in for inspection and exhaust tomorrow
