Dash Gauge Problem

I have a 1977 shortbed that I just finished up putting back together. When I bought it last year it was apart. The following gauges do not work at all volt, water temp, fuel. I repaired the harness where it was suspect, put in a new water temp sender, and made sure the fuel sender had a good ground. Seems odd to me that all of them are out. The oil gauge is mechanical from the factory, that works. Thanks, Jim M.

Re: Dash Gauge Problem

Hi Jim,

Check the 4A "CLSTR FEED" fuse that's located at the bottom of the fuse box. That feeds power to all three of those gauges (fuel, temp, and volts) that aren't working.

If the fuse checks out okay, check the fuse contact clips in the fuse box. I've come across instances where they have just enough corrosion build up to keep current from flowing through the circuit.

Other possibilities would be bad power or ground connections where the harness plugs into the back of the cluster or where the gauges connect to the printed circuit. But those are less likely because each gauge has it's own power wire & contact (they branch off at a factory splice after the fuse). And the grounds are shared with some other items like the high beam and turn signal indicators so a bad ground probably wouldn't be limited to just those 3 gauges.
