Looking at buying this truck. what do you think?

hey guys at first i got the square body bug and needed a daily driver so i jumped on the best deal i could get. well after a while i started to realize i wanted a K series or a 3+3.

well found this truck, what do you think of it?

i have a 1967 292 id like to rebuild to throw in it. From what Ive heard and read itll slip right right in. but just curious its a chevy 292 and its a gmc truck. i dont think there will be a problem.

That's a good looking truck. You could probably talk him down to like 1700 but even the 2000 is great. Good idea with the 292 I love the inlines I'm running a 250 plenty of power for my lwb it's also my daily driver.

i too would like to get a 6 banger square for a daily driver. for that crew though, you might want to visit http://www.cliffordperformance.net/, i know my K30 is 7500 lbs, a 2wd crew should be right around 6000 lbs, if ya haul anything with it, you might be wishing for them 2 extra cylinders
mind you, the wife's Envoy XUV has the 4.2 6cyc. & weighs just over 5k & does pretty good, it does work up a sweat pulling the quad hauler though (3800 lbs)

If it is not all rusted underneath, I would take it. Of course, negotiate a better price if you can, but $2K with no rust would be a steal anywhere.

Re: Looking at buying this truck. what do you think?

hey thanks for the feed back guys. yeah I was debating but the 454 is out of the question, gas isnt cheap. Plus i have that spare 292, if i had a 350 i would put that in it. but from what ive read you can you muscle up a 292 to pretty much be a 350. i know its $$$$ but i already have an extra head that is machined and lumped. the block needs to be completely gone through. Hot tanked, machined, painted. im not looking to haul anything. im just 23 so i dont have a trailer, camper, any toys... plus itll always be good to have an extra 454 lying around before those damn emissions came into play.

Re: Looking at buying this truck. what do you think?

If you are going to keep the 292 for this you really MUST go to Clifford performance. The long tube headers are a must as well as the intake. The cams they offer are great for a truck and the matching springs for the cam do not require any additional head work. I did up a 250 many years ago and loved it. Still have it (on a stand) and no, none of the Clifford stuff is for sale. The 390 Holly works best for the set up. That is the carb Clifford used when they did all their tuning.

That truck looks like a winner. Go and get it before someone beats you to it. You don't want a six cylinder in that beast. A nice mild 350 with a 700R4 would be a better choice, in my opinion.

Re: Looking at buying this truck. what do you think?

I was just thinking a built up 292 with a 4barrel carb, upgraded cam, lumped heads, machined and get bigger pistons, after market air intake, and headers will do good. Its a 1967 292 so it's not all emissioned down like my 1978 292. thanks for the heads up on the headers stepside man. you seem to know a lot about inline 6's. I know a 350 would be a easier choice but you don't get the same reaction from people when you pop the hood and there's a I6 sitting there. I know with the 292's they put them in delivery trucks, 1tons, and bigger trucks. right now i have a c20 with a 292, cant see the extra cab making that big of difference after its been built up. I'm trying to find time to make it up to Seattle. I live in Portland. Also I like driving manuals better. Ive been driving an automatic the past couple days and I feel like getting an acetylene torch and just melting the damn transmission away
