Main seal leak???

Okay so I have a rather large puddle under my truck. Looks reddish too, but also looks like oil? My question is: Is this a rear main seal? My truck is an 86 silverado with 350 so does that mean its two piece? If so or If not, can this be done with the motor in the truck? Any threads detailing this process?

Thanks

Re: Main seal leak???

Best advice!
Don't assume it's the rear main.
If it's red or dark red it's tranny fluid. THe tranny fluid mixes with any other dirt or oil under there and comes out darker.
Get under there and clean it off first. Clean everywhere you can then run it and find the source.

Re: Main seal leak???

Okay thanks.. I replaced the trans pan gasket a month or so back. Perhaps it's coming from that..? Cause it's never leaked like this before. ( why I didn't think of the obvious I don't know) do you by chance know the torque specs on the trans pan bolt?

How handy!
Have my Haynes book right here!
Says 10 ft/lbs for pan bolts.
