woohoo down to the last bolt!!!

Finally got to the bare frame yesterday...woohoo. Too bad it wasn't the last bolt to put it together. I got a chance to take out the front crossmember, sand it, and por-15 it. It went on pretty smooth. Got some drips here and there but not noticeable unless your right on it. I guess it's all downhill from here. Got a call from Wes too. Slight setback on the shipping but nothing Wes can't handle. Thanks Wes!

I'll post some pics when I get them developed...(yes I'm in the dark ages)

jay make sure it is covered well. last time I did this I missed 1 spot and you know how quick stuff rusrs in hawaii. I was through the frame in 3 months.

Jay - did you brush or spray the por-15? And did you do the 2 step process with the color and protector? How much did you use for the complete frame?

Smooth....I sanded down all the rust with 80 grit and wiped off whatever grease (I found out you cant sand grease) with paint thinner. When I got down to what I felt was good enough, I took a rag and wiped off the part. I bought a roller (sorry forgot the brand) that was advertised as "like a spray on finish." I also bought a 1" multipurpose brush for the awkward parts. I sprayed the "Metal Ready" on the part, kept it wet for 15 minutes. Washed it off with water and let it get dry. I used the roller with pretty good results. The POR-15 is very thick and will blend together so that it wont leave brush marks. I'm gonna see if I have to topcoat it. It looks good as it is, but it says not to leave it out in the sun or else it will discolor and break down. I haven't done the whole frame yet, but it didn't take much to do the front crossmember.

Cojnit....i hear you on the rust. Never mind the rust belt...this is the rust overalls.:p
