Title Question! Please Help!!
hello guys, ive recently found this forum via google. i was searching for answers to a title question i have about a truck i just bought.. google brought me to a thread on this website. but now that i created an account, i cant find that discussion!!!
here is my question. i just bought a straight and clean 67 C20. long bed 3/4 ton. really nice running and driving truck. the advertisement called it a 1967. and the body style matches the year... i had this thing delivered from Oklahoma to my place here in Arkansas. after he dropped the truck off and left, i got a closer look at the title... the date on the Oklahoma title is "1966", (it was tagged and insured when i bought it, so its a fairly new title) BUT the VIN numbers on the truck and title match. and using the VIN decoders ive found online, the VIN number returns to a 1967 3/4 ton long bed V8.. which is what ive got.. im not sure why the title would say 1966, it does claim the truck to be built at the end of the year in 1966, but shouldn't the actual year model be listed on the title???? or is that just the way they do things in Oklahoma?? would this be some kind of half year model? any help guys??? |

Re: Title Question! Please Help!!
Not sure at all how an OK title is formated but if the model year is listed as a 1966 then it is incorrect. Some states did and still have a date first sold block. That could be what triggered a 66my being listed.
If I understand you correctly it is listed as a 1966 Chevrolet C20 pickup truck. The VIN looks like CE247S100001 or CS247F100001 correct with the proper exchanges to reflect your assembly plant and serial number. If the title, VIN and the doorsill plate (should also have rosette rivets not common pop rivets) agree you are well on the way. A matching SPID label on the glovebox door would also help but many 67 trucks did not have them. There might be frame numbers too. Basically if everything matches you can probably get it corrected to 67 and the more supporting documentation the better. If you want to send me pictures I can PM an address or phone number to send to for my review.

Re: Title Question! Please Help!!
Probably manufactured in late 66 but sold as a 67.
When you Googled the title question and found the forum be on the same computer and Google it again using the same wording and the link should come back up but highlighted in a different color showing you clicked the link.. give it a try.

Re: Title Question! Please Help!!
I'm not surprised it says 66. I bought a 68 GMC in Oklahoma and it came back as a 66. I called the dept of motor vehicles in Oklahoma City and the reissued a new title. Bad part is, it had to be done by the guy whose name was on the title. I would talk to DMV in Ark and see what they say. Tell them it must have been a typo and show them how the Vin breaks down to a 67. Just my opinion of course....... OH, welcome to the Forum!

Re: Title Question! Please Help!!
You could call the Oklahoma Tax Commission and ask them if AR decides to have a fit over it.

Re: Title Question! Please Help!!
the date of manufacture is listed as November of 1966. and the first tagged date is at the end of 1966 as well... im planning on calling the guy i bought it from in the morning and asking him a few questions. he is a mechanic and owns a shop in Oklahoma. he might have all the answers. but ive crawled all over the truck, and all the numbers match the number on the title.. im hoping its nothing important. i plan on keeping this truck anyway. the previous owner left his tags and insurance on it when he sold it... the title says 1966, but the insurance papers even say its a 1967... so if he didnt have any trouble getting it legal in Oklahoma with the wrong date on it, im hoping Arkansas plays along as well!!! ... ill get a picture of the date issue on the title next chance i get and post it, along with the pics of this gorgeous old 3/4 ton!!
and thanks for the information guys, its making me feel better anyhow! and thanks for the warm welcome to the forum!!.....also i posted a pic of a 1955 1 ton stake bed in the "Heavy Haulers" section, and ive just decided to sell it!! be sure to check that out too!! |
