start problem
I just replaced stock ram exhaust manifold with headers. And the battery was grounded to a bracket on the stock exhaust. I was told to bolt ground battery terminal directly to the block but i do not have any room, the previous owner converted to serpentine belt system. So i bolted battery terminal to bracket below the a/c compressor, and as you probably know the motor turns but wont start . Any one have any ideas or know how to fix???

Re: start problem
If she turns over you got the ground on correct. Sounds like a smaller ign. wire from the starter solenoid didn't get hooked up or broke.

Re: start problem
I agree that if starter turns with no hesitation and doesn't sound like it's struggling it's not the ground cable that's keeping it from starting. You need to double check the solenoid wiring and check the voltage to the coil or HEI distributor. After that check the spark plug to see if spark getting to it.
I will add that the exhaust manifold was not a good place to have the ground cable going to.

Re: start problem
My 69 with 350 and factory A/C came new with the ground to the farthest forward exhaust manifold bolt along with the A/C compressor bracket. It is actually a bolt with a studded head for the ground to attach both ground and A/C bracket.
