Re: what do you guys think of these engine combos for the wow factor

i like tricked out 250 or 292s

also 427 would be nice with a 4 speed

I know a retired man near my house, he has a chevy 302 with a munice 4 speed in his 1965 short fleet, pretty cool combo

i'm not big on the Cummings thing; keep these trucks gm powered

I would either go with one of my blown Pontiacs:

...or, a blown 500 ci Cadillac:

Gotta go with the Vette 427, especially if you're not going to drive it. That should wow a few folks.

348 or 409 would be the coolest "wow" factor in my book.

I think a 427 would be the coolest, even if you do drive it regularly.

Turbo inline 6. There are a couple running around here and a guy who has it pretty well figured out. Dad and I were on that trail for awhile...

that was my original plan and I haven't ruled that out. I have a turbo drag radial car so I do ok with turbos and efi if I wanted to go that way.
so maybe a blow thru carb and a turbo would be different and well in my budget

I say 427...I have one on my engine stand right now to go in my '68 project. The 8 Stack injection would put it over the TOP!!

Re: what do you guys think of these engine combos for the wow factor

You can get weber carb intakes for small/big blocks if you wanted to stay carb'd but have the same look. That's what I'm doing on my '66.

Gotta make my own intake since I can't find an affordable manifold for an LS with the Weber bolt pattern.

Shooting for something like this.

Re: what do you guys think of these engine combos for the wow factor

I would do a relatively stock small block or I6 with a simple EFI single turbo setup. Making your power with boost is much cheaper than buying cams, and crazy heads, to a point. If your goals are under 500hp it's pretty damn easy to force that through a good sized v8 with an inexpensive turbo. I just installed and tuned a complete EFI setup on my '66 for about $800 and I could easily build a turbo setup to go with it for about the same again.

Dual quads or tri power on the 427 just to be different.
