66 c10 motor mount problems

Hey guys, recently i threw a rod in my 250 I6 motor that was in my 1966 c-10.
I picked up a 350 sbc out of a 74 caprice. Im bolting it up to the Muncie 4 Speed that came in the truck untill i get a 5speed.

I ran into a problem with mounting it to the truck it looks like the old perches that bolt to the frame could be shifted forward to accomidate the 350 but when i unbolted and moved the perches forward it doesnt fit. Any advise and help would be GREATLY appreciated.

I replaced the 230 in my 64 C10 with a 350, and I left the perches right where they were. Everything fit just fine. In fact, if you're going to re-use the cast iron bellhousing that bolts to the frame crossmember, you have no choice but to leave the perches in the original location.

Or move the trans mount for the bellhousing mount and use a longer drive shaft. Easiest solution is to leave them in the straight 6 location.

Oh trust me if i had the funds to do that right now i would. im trying to get the engine in before my classes start back up so i can have a truck to drive haha. im going to try again tonight. thanks for all the help guys ill keep you posted on any other problems encountered

Should use the same motor mounts also.

There is no reason your 350 shouldn't bolt in in the stock location. That is exactly where the factory mounted the 283's and 327's which are small blocks just like the 350......same exact physical size.

You could move the engine forward by using the '67-'72 small block motor mount brackets, but then you will also have to move the bellhousing crossmember forward, lenthen the drive shaft, etc., etc.

The project I picked up had a 400 turbo with no motor and when I tried to install my 350 it would not line up, the frame mount center hole was to low to accept the mount bolts and the mounts were for a 283, so I solved the problem by using 73 and up mounts a much stronger mount but still not sure why the other style would not work.

well its been a few days since ive been on since my classes started back up and im still down to using my fiances car untill my truck parts come. My scatter brain forgot to even look at the started and it was interfering with the bellhousing and not allowing me to go all the way in. got a new starter and problem solved.

Im loving the room between the radiator and the motor compared to my 250, allows more room for my electric fan setup. Ill start a build post when the parts come in the mail. thanks for all the advise and help with my question this forum rocks!

I know this is an old thread but would this be the correct location for the perches on a 66 with a v8 and turbo350?

Yes, that is the correct location for the motor mounts for the small blocks, as well as the 230/250 I6 engines. Since you are installing an auto trans you will want to remove the bellhousing crossmember. Then of course you will need a transmission crossmember. An auto trans crossmember from a '63-'87 pickup, Suburban or 2wd K5 Blazer will work just fine. You'll just have to drill the bolt holes once you get the engine and trans situated.

Thanks Captainfab.I was worried mine were in the wrong spot because my oil pan seems so far away from the front crossmember compared to my 72.I hope I can get the trans crossmember in the correct spot the first time I don't want a bunch of holes in my frame.Does your bracket work for an 83c10 master cylinder on my 66?

The small blocks in the '67-'72's do sit farther forward than in the '63-'66's. The motor mount brackets are different as well.

No my booster bracket does not work with the '73-'87 boosters. Those have the mounting brackets riveted to them. You will have to drill some holes to use that booster. Or you can get one of the many compatable boosters and use my booster bracket, and just bolt it all together. One of the more recent posts in the for sale thread has a listing of the compatable boosters.
