side trim

I recently removed all my side trim so it would be easier to polish the truck. Can anyone recommend where to buy new mounting clips for my OEM trim pieces? Does it matter where you buy them? Are they all the same? The originals on my 66 (on the long bed pieces as well as some others) were red plastic.

Also, any other tricks/tips to reinstalling side trim that a guy should know? Thanks!

Re: side trim

That's pretty ambitious! I tend to use Auveco Products automotive fasteners for the moulding and trim clips on personal and customer restoration projects.

Re: side trim

Mar-K carries them. Little pricy, but they fit and work well.

(May have to click on "View Catalog Page". Haven't tried the link yet)

Re: side trim

Any other opinions on this? I presume I should avoid LMC. What about Classic? Brothers? Or are you better of going to a specialty "trim fastener" supply house like vin63 recommends? Or are they all the same clips no matter where you get them?

I believe Mar-K's kit includes mostly Auveco products. You can do a search for Auveco Automotive Fasteners to see if there is a dealer near you, or there are scores of online dealers. I purchase mine from a local auto body equipment wholesaler/supplier near me.

Re: side trim

I've already bought LMC clips...
Should I look into something else?

Re: side trim

I contacted Brothers and they said they source their molding clips from Mar-K (who apparently makes them). $99

Classic Parts says their clip set is sourced partially from Au-ve-co. $29

Classic Industries sells a clip set of unknown origin. $69

Any thoughts? Opinions? Prices seem to be all over the board. Has anyone used Mar-K's trim clips before?
