I have a 1968 Stepside with a 307.. and the motor i think is shot...
its been sitting in the rain for over 15 years...

a buddy of mine has a 1967 Cadillac with a 472 with only 88k miles and he said that he would sell me the whole car CHEAP....

would the 472 work in the Truck or is it too hard to swap it...

so many Chevy engine options available my question would be 'why' do that much work for an engine with so little in the way of aftermarket parts available?

Worth the time and effort...personal

Costly....definitely

Able to upgrade and modify Caddy engine in the future...Nope

It's all about an individuals choice and vision for their unique project.

Personally, I would stick with the huge range of Chevy original products for my project.

Depends. If you want unique and cool and lots of low end grunt, it might be a good idea.

If you want easy----crate 350 and done with it.

Do a search,there are a couple of members who have done the 472 501 swap.It's got grunt but if you want performance you'll be better off with the SBC.

A carb engine with 88k miles is probably nearing the time to rebuild threshold anyway. I would stick with the 307 until I know something big is wrong with it. If both need rebuilds then easiest is to go with a crate.

Lets see.....

A Cadillac engine was higher quality than normal Chevy engines. Blocks were better metallurgy, tolerances closer. Cadillac was blue printing cylinder bore to piston fit over 60 years ago.

A big Cadillac makes lots of torque bone stock. Actually better torque than your average smog era 454 Chevy ever did. They make enough torque stock that performance mods aren't likely to be as much of a priority once you get it installed.

Cadillac engines weigh more than a small block, but less than a big block.

Statistically, Cadillacs get better maintenance than most cars. People who pay more for a car are most likely to be more fussy over maintenance.

Personally, I'd absolutely do it in a second.

Did I mention torque ? If you've ever driven a modern diesel pickup you know what hot rods they are. It's because of the torque they have. Torque is very addictive.

WHAT EXACTLY is cheap?? $300-$400 for a runnin drivin caddy ???i'd get that in a heartbeat and have it in the truck by the end of the weekend

guys try an make out like it is some type of brain surgery it aint it is basis lift it up put it down and weld towers in place hook up driveshaft an go
