front air bags on solid axle

I am thinking of fabricating air bags on my 51 using my straight axle removing leafs in the springs and running bags between the frame and upper spring plates where the bumpers are. has anyone seen or attempted this? I saw how ride tech has the rear air over leafs and thought about doing it in the front.

The only issue I could see is steering binding from box to steering arm. Bags on in place of coils not affected to much because A Arm design, but straight axle the bum steer is really affected cause your limited on movement if it is to much of an angle will bind on you.

Re: front air bags on solid axle

My Burb still has the upper plates where they had run bags above and the core axle I sent Sid at droppedaxles.com had a bracket for a pan hard bar welded to it and the u bolt brackets had plates welded to them. I don't have any pic's of the old stuff. I gutted it to run stock leafs and a dropped axle. The upper plates come outboard of the frame just above the axle.

Re: front air bags on solid axle

the truck has the cpp saganaw gear mounted to the front of the frame when I bought it, so I don't think I will have any issues with the steering being in the way
