steering components '72 vs 73-87

So...what are the differences between all the steering components on the 1972 c10 compared to the '73-87?

I guess your asking about the drag link tie rods, idler and pitman arm?

They are very likely similar, but there can be differences in shaft and hole diameters, the out put spline on the gear box could be different. It is just the matter of comparing them to find the differences.

And if your looking at swapping the steering knuckles there is differences in ball joints as well.

Now there have been plenty of people that take the whole 73 up suspension, linkage etc and swap them under 67-72. And they work perfectly. The problem as I see it is they go to the rubber bushed a-frame and get away from the heavy duty screw type pivots.

I personally have converted up to the mid 80's steering gear box to get the 3.5 turn lock to lock steering and had no problem doing it.

Maybe that has answered a few questions.

Hahah ill spare you a long story, but I'm basically looking to see If the relay bar is longer on a 72 than on the 73-87

Relay bar, what I call a drag link (the center part that the pitman arm and the idler hold in position?).

I have thoughts of shaft diameters being different but IDK 100%, length I'm unsure of I have an 80 model I can measure.
