static or bag it ?

My current plan for my 81 C10 is a 4.5 / 6 McGaugheys static drop but for some reason lately I've been thinking about air ride bag kit. How much different in price is it and how much harder to install? Advantage and down sides for both??

A good air ride kit is about 3 grand or more depending air management system.Static is cheaper but once its own your kinda stuck at that height.But with air you have about 5 inches of play on height.Air ride isn't that hard to install if you buy the right parts and take your time.If you get a bolt in kit you have a little wiring and plumbing the air lines.

Porterbuilt & RideTech are 2 of the best for quality parts & ease of installation (time is money).

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.
It's like a highly skilled Morrocan sword fighter with a Damascus Steel Scimitar.....

Cubic inches is like Indiana Jones with a cheap pistol.

Re: static or bag it ?

Going with air does offer adjustability and that low stance when parked at a show. With air ride, you have a lot of choices from mild to extreme. The square body trucks do take a little more work and parts to bag due to the leaf spring setup. To bag correctly, in my opinion, it is best to switch out that leaf spring suspension to a 4-link or trailing arm setup.

Switching out the leaf spring rear suspension to a more favorable setup when bagging, this does mean a little more cost. We have our Pro1 air ride kit that has everything you need to bag your truck and keep it all under the bed, not needing to cut the floor. Now, there are cheaper options, but this is a great system that works and converts the rear over to trailing arms. This mentioned air ride kit uses Porterbuilt components, along with dual VIAIR compressors, Accuair valve, DOT fittings, DOT air line, etc...

This setup is bolt for the most part, but does require minor welding for the trailing arm axle pads on the axle.

Feel free contact me with any questions at all and would be glad to help out.

Having owned similar dropped trucks for the 'apple to apple' comparison, the PB truck-arm conversion is the best way to do the rear on leaf trucks.
