Re: Wich gauges you advise me?

Gauges are a personal thing as you are the one who has to look at them all the time along with the fact that they need to fit the build theme for your truck. Old school and white walls and you don't want digital but larger diameter Billet wheels, later model engine with billet goodies and digital fits in the plan.

The first thing I would do is find feedback on the gauges you are looking at from several sources. Do either have problems with quality control? are they considered to be accurate? Do the people who bought them feel that they got good value for the money?

If you are ordering them from the states I'd suggest buying from a known store front vendor such as Summit or Speedway or someone similar rather than an unknown off Ebay. Pick one with a reputation for good customer service.

48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six.
71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant.
77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

I like the dakota series, my dash will be blue, and the dakota series are carbon inside and with blue light,
But,!! The are 750 usd , and thats a lot of money
I also like the Dolphin 5" gauges
I think I will go for this set up, but I cant find any information anywhere if it is what you say' good value for the money, i am hoping to find here on this forum some people that are using the Dolphin gauges, and can share there opinions

I splurged on the Dakota VHX gauges, I really liked all that they can do. And the silver background with the blue lights should look awesome!

Re: Wich gauges you advise me?

I had the Dolphins in my '46 Chrvy and they worked fine. Fortunately they'd gotten rid of the picture of the little dolphin on them by the time I bought mine! That's the only thing I couldn't live with.

Re: Wich gauges you advise me?

+1 on the Dakota VHX! Digitally controlled, analog display!
Don't have them yet, but hope to! They appear easy to adjust with any fuel sender, transmission, and tire size change! All of that is definitely a plus..... but $750 better, not sure YET!

Re: Wich gauges you advise me?

I think I am going to order these gauges next week when I am in NY, expensive, but i think they will look very nice with my plans for my truck..

If I choose the dolphin set, I have to buy a extra RPM gauge, and have to place it on my dash.and I want the dash to look original

These are nice! I also just looked back at your oroginal post to see that you are working on a 51! I have a 55 2nd, so I am limited as to what all can be fit into the original triangular guage bezel, and I wanted a Tach (RPM gauge) as well. I will look at what they have for a 55 from this company.

I vote go for it!!!!

EDIT!EDIT!EDIT!
I looked at their site. I think the Dakota Digital VHX is a better package, and when lit at night, looks better too! The NVUs require you to order specific to the fuel sender you currently have.... therefore making it harder to change things in the future!

I take back my vote for NVU, and go double or nothing on the VHX!!!!!

I really like the 3 in 1 gauge set, so I bought a set about six years ago from Haneline for my 53 Chevy.
With that said the style is great, I wish I could say the same about there speedometer!!
I do not think they are still in business, as no one will answer my calls!

These three in one sets that are shown above fit all the bases, if you can get them calibrated.
Someone buy them and tell us all how they work !

Re: Wich gauges you advise me?

OK, so a little late here, I have the dolphin 5 gauge set in my '46. As far as function go they have been great with no issues at all (100K + miles) that being said I do have issues with quality. After 6 months the outer portion of the gauge turned yellow on the speedo and on the other four it started to curl like it had been sitting in direct sunlight all the time. I do have tinted glass and I don't think this should happen with any gauge.
They where cheep, I think I gave like $240 for the set back in 2000.
Maybe it's just me, but I except my stuff to last forever. Come to think of it, I haven't owned a car or truck less then 50 years old in the past 10 years.

(a little late to the party as well) - But, I found these at a show recently.

I'm putting them here (on a fully smoothed dash)

Re: Wich gauges you advise me?

Do those gauges only come with a 140 mph speedometer? There might be cases where someone would want a 140 mph speedo for an AD, but I would rather have one that read to 100 as I think it would be easier to read.

The Dakota Digital VHX gauges are really nice, and have a lot of add-on modules for some very cool features.

Where did you get these for $550. They are $850 now. I realize your post is from 2013 but that's a 300 increase in 4 years. Materials didn't go up that much
