Hey guys, I am looking for some 5 lug center caps. I see alot that are advertised as 5 lug from 80's 90's silverados.

Will it make a difference if they came from an 90's silverado ? I think those are 5 x 4.75 ?

What kind of center caps can i use.

All 1/2 Ton 2wd GM pickups have the 5 on 5 lug pattern.

With the older caps, they are held onto the wheels with 3 screws.

The newer style caps are held on by plastic lug nut covers which are threaded on to the lug nut itself. For these, you will need the correct style lug nuts, but I'm not sure the threads are the same.

All 5 lug 1/2 ton GM trucks, from the 70s through 98 (and some leftover old body styles through 2000) were 5x5. The issue with the caps on the 88+ trucks is that they are held on using threaded plastic lug nut caps that thread on over the double threaded lug nuts. The threads on the studs went metric in 88 as well, so the new lug nuts won't work, but you can get lug nuts with the correct 1/2" threads that also are externally threaded to fit the newer caps.

Here is a listing out of the Dorman catalog that lists the part numbers for the conversion lug nuts to make the later(88+) caps work on our earlier wheel studs.

Thread Size-----Part #-------- Use in place of
1/2"-20---------611-159-------M12-1.50 with 24mm outside thread
7/16"-20--------611-160-------M12-1.50 with 24mm outside thread
9/16"-18--------611-161-------M14-1.50 with 27mm outside thread
1/2"-20---------611-178-------M14-1.50 with 27mm outside thread
7/16"-20--------611-179-------M14-1.50 with 27mm outside thread

I included all of the part numbers for these conversion nuts just in case it helps somebody with a different project.

The 611-178 and 611-179 part numbers are the ones that will be working for our 67-72's, depending on whether you are working with a 5 lug or 6 lug truck. The caps we are using originally had 14mm wheel studs with the 27mm outside diameter.
