Driveline phasing

Hello Everyone

I got my motor mounts in the mail yesterday, and I plan on welding them in tomorrow. I have some questions regarding motor placement. I read this page,
http://jniolon.clubfte.com/driveline...nephasing.html
and it has helped, but I have a 2 piece driveshaft and I was wondering if the same rules apply.

Also, how much could move the motor over towards the passenger side?
I'm concerned if I line it up straight, the exhaust manifold will hit the steering box.
What is your guys' experience on this?

Re: Driveline phasing

Put 1 - 1.5 deg vertical angle into the first joint at trans. Set pinion angle to match front shaft angle. Second shaft angles will automatically cancel. Can do similar with horizontal angles / engine offset and carrier bearing position.

(Yes, there is a LOT of information there.)

Re: Driveline phasing

Page 14 on the link 1project2many shows you what you need to know. Notice how the U joints and shafts are laid out so that the shaft never binds as it rotates.

That whole pfd is really good info that everyone needs to save in their Bookmarks tech file for future reference.

Re: Driveline phasing

Well thank you all for the help.
I read through the PDF almost as soon as 1Project2many posted it.
I have my motor mounts welded in. And I'll get to work on the trans mount soon.

Also note the instructions to rotate the slip joint or rear shaft yoke 90 degrees when trans to shaft angle is large and second angle is small. This will force the U-joint to "work" and help prevent premature failure of the center joint. See figure ten on P. 14.
