protecto plate question
I just picked up a '72 k5 that still has the original owners manual with protecto plate and some very early dealer receipts. The owners manual original had a name and address listed with a 1972 date along with a receipt with that name on it along with the same name from the initial protecto plate. The name on my protecto plate is the second name that was written in over the other name on the owners manual with a 1973 date. Im thinking first owner traded it in early on as my receipts indicate mileage of 500 for first guy and 8000 for the second. Did GM issue different protecto plates for each different owner while the vehicle was under warranty? If so, then why would they not just issue a new owners card instead of crossing it out? As a side note, one of the owners had gm install a coolant recovery tank....on the 4x4 fan shroud . Anybody on the board know a Richard S Hardy or James (Jerry) Morrehead from the Sterling/ Rock Falls, Il area?

Re: protecto plate question
When the vehicle was brought into the dealer for work under warranty, the protectoplate was ran through an imprint machine on an invoice like the old credit cards. The new plate needed to be issued since it was stamped metal. The owners card was paper, so a pen and ink change could be made.

Re: protecto plate question
No kiddin'? I have one of those old Dynmo label makers. No idea they would have been used to do something like that.

Re: protecto plate question
Yep, the plate was part of the warranty book and the label maker printed it in reverse like the plate was for the imprinter.

Re: protecto plate question
Plate from my 72 had some metal imprints and the owner information was added by the dealer, is that what the question is?
