column or floor shift for my new 700r4???

Ok, I scored a 700r4 for my truck that will be installed soon. My 1969 c10 is an original 3 on the tree manual transmission.

What are my options to make the 700r4 work??
Any way to use/modify the original steering column and run it through there?? Or do I gotta search out an aftermarket column and swap it in.

Just want to find out how difficult /expensive to operate the 700r4 through the column vs just installing a tall lokar shifter.

Thanks guys.

Re: column or floor shift for my new 700r4???

Bump for more looks...

I was told a factory steering column will NOT be able to be modified to run a 700r4
Is this true??

I priced a tilt column through CPP @ $349

Other option would be a lokar shifter price probably isnt too much cheaper im guessing.

Hmmm , any input /suggestions would be great

Re: column or floor shift for my new 700r4???

I just had mine switched out for a 700R4. Mine was auto to begin with and my factory column works fine with the new one. The guy who did the install told me that I wouldn't be able to put it in low gear with the exisiting column. Since I never use it, I don't see that as an issue.

If you get Lokar's adjustable linkage kit it will go into low.
Lookie Here Now for information.

Here are the instructions.

Is it true the gear indicator will not match what gear the trans is in though. Do they make a replacement one?

Re: column or floor shift for my new 700r4???

Mine had a 4 speed Muncie in it that NEVER shifted into 1st gear.
Swapped in a 700R4 and used a steering column from an 85 van.
Easy swap.
