AC Compressor Questions

I am looking to get the AC working on my 72 Cheyenne and have some questions.

First of all, I will say, I am putting the parts together to make this 100% original as it came in 1972. I know they are prone to problems but I am OK with that.

I am searching for a compressor and wondering what other compressors will work? I have what I believe is a compressor from a 1978 pick up and other than the factory ID sticker, it looks to be the same.

Thank you for your time.

Re: AC Compressor Questions

If you have the long comp., the A-6, they are everywhere in used condition & are pretty much all enterchangeable. The pulleys can vary & clock position of the clutch wire connector can be different. These can be changed with the proper tools. If the 78 is the short R-4 comp. then it is not original to the 72.

Re: AC Compressor Questions

If you want a good reman A-6, get one that was done in the USA. They are the only ones I have found that won't lose the seal in a year.

They don't look original.

Re: AC Compressor Questions

The problem is he wants it to be "100% original"

But if you paint it black most people wouldn't know the difference. I bought mine from Amazon Amazon
