Need to do a weld?

Hey all! question is ,I gutted my cat here in Cali. cause it was rattling around in there,so used my sawzall and made cut 2" right behind it,now need to weld the 3" pipe back together,my buddy has a mig welder(home unit) he bought at Lowe's and said I can use it,think its a wire feed unit? haven't welded in some time,so need a refresh, will that work for what I want to do,lots off room all the way around, can supply a pic if needed, local muff place wants 20-30 to weld it,but afraid they won't do it if they see the cats been messed with, thanks again!

It should do the trick no problem.

Word of advice, and I've removed and hollowed out many a converter before, run a piece of pipe THROUGH the cat. Will eliminate any chance of getting a gawd awful reverb sound in your exhaust.

Re: Need to do a weld?

Thanks for the input! will weld it up,but sounds OK to me right now, have it temp sealed with 2 clamps and section of sheet metal, its not the original Cat on the truck, new smaller size one,3" pipe with a flowmaster muff, sounds pretty darn good with the V8 !
