i have two engines i can use for my 72 c10 stepside. one is a gm hecho in mexico block 10066036, 86-up 350 Car & Truck 4-bolt, 1-piece seal with a cam , or gm usa block 3970010, 69-79 350 car & Truck 4-Bolt Most common, I have aluminum heads to put on either one, Im hopping the cam can be used with black but im not sure.

Re: which engine should i use?

That's a tuffy... The old block is going to have a high nickel content= stronger and better... but the new block will have roller cam provisions and less chance of a rear main oil leak. So, for me the deciding factor would be how much HP are you building and how hard are you going to run it. Is this going to be your DD or just a sunday driver?

Over all, I think I would go with the newer block due to the eventual oil leak from the two piece seal unless I had a steel crank to go in it. Plus the newer block does have better oiling passages than the older one.
