Floorboard metal/ally seperating strips. What alternatives are out there?

I hope this makes sense.

My truck has a greatly functional plywood floor with two coats of underseal and a rubber mat on top. So really perfect as a "working truck"

Now if you look at the last page of my build thread here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=585901 You will see the 90mm wide White Oak strips I got over the weekend.

It will need about 18/19 of these strips to cover the rear.
So I am looking at various ways to hold down, and also protect the strips once prepped.
I am thinking of tucking the tips into a "C" or "U" shaped strip front and rear and then securing the boards in one or two places only on the under floor support strips.

SO HERE IS THE QUESTION:

What alternative methods have you guys used to successfully make up these strips between the wood ??

My truck must always retain the ability to be a "Working truck" due to my habit of carting "treasures" home. The recent pillar drill and steel cabinets are a good example of what it needs to be capable of.

PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT I LIVE IN ENGLAND SO A QUICK ORDER FROM LMC IS A BIT MORE COMPLEX AND COSTLY DUE TO POSTAGE AND COURIER COSTS.

Short of fabbing up some alternative metal strips from some light flat bar stock you could make something out of some of the white oak to match or even another hardwood like red oak or poplar and paint or stain for contrast or to match if so desired.

I grabbed this pic off the old inter-webs and that's just one possibility.

I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Two pieces of light gauge angle iron, butted back-to-back to make a 'tee', should work. Tack together with strip-welds to hold tops flat & then bolt 'em in.
