Re: tach dash in
Does the tach work? And congrats... only 9,277 miles on your truck-sweet.

Re: tach dash in
That tach sure looks good! I want one for my 1968 C10. I just found a full set of gauges (no tach) in a junkyard and I want them, but am not sure if $50 is a good price.

Re: tach dash in
That is looking good sir. You might want to just double check the ground and the plug in again if you have not yet. If that does not work, try a separate ground wire directly to the tin on the back of the cluster to a known good ground.

I would not pay to much over $25.00 unless it is really nice. Will they refund your money if the gauges are not working? You will need to invest in new bulbs also.

Re: tach dash in
I got the repo harness from Classic Parts, I think it was $20.
It's got the plug for the back of the tach, the one that plugs into ign. unfused on the fuse panel, and the plug that runs through the firewall to the coil.

Which one dash light works? never mind, i read your prior post. Speedo light correct? Does the bright light indicator or the turn signal indicators work? |

Re: tach dash in
What cluster did you used to have? You can't switch from idiot lights to gauges without some rewiring.

Re: tach dash in
Tom,
Do you have an OHM meter? can you check resistance between the circuit board paths. That will tell you if something is burned out. Most of the time you can see when they burn out. Also, do you have a 12 V test light and can you check power at the connector. You should have power for the dash lights, the turn signal indicators, the bright light indicator, the amp/volt gauge. Have you downloaded the wiring schematics or do you have them available? That will help you pin point what terminal is for what. Sorry you are having problems. I know electrical stuff can be a pain. |

Re: tach dash in
While the circuit board doesn't look the greatest, I don't see any obvious spots.
You might try cleaning up the contacts and seeing if that helps.

Re: tach dash in

Re: tach dash in
So I took it back apart cleaned it up a bit, made sure everything was good and tight. Now the tach, speedo, oil pressure gauge and all dash lights work. Just fuel, battery, and temp gauges aren't working. Gonna try some fuses today as my last guess, or a new printed circuit. Any one have any other guesses?

Re: tach dash in
Sounds like you are on the right track Tom. All of those gauges you mention should be powered by the gauge fuse in the fuse block.
Use your test light and make sure the fuse has power on both sides. You will need to have the ignition in the on position to check this. |

Re: tach dash in
Make sure the wire didn't get disconnected at the fuel sending unit!

Re: tach dash in
I give up for now. .. replaced some fuses, made sure again the connection was in good. Only thing I can figure now is its the printed circuit. Guess I'll have to give a new one a try now

Looking at this picture it looks like the upper 2 are 3 connections are missing and maybe some lower ones to. The circuit is cut off and looks like it may not be making contact with the plug once inserted.
