Recommended headers?
Looking for suggestions on a set of headers for my truck (70 w/350SB and AT) that will give me the most space from the starter, to minimize the heat soak. I currently have a set of Shorties on it hat fit nice but the collector is right next to the Starter motor, and I've burnt two starters to date. I considered going bak to factory Rams Horn manifolds, both for the look and feasibility. I'd kinda like to stay away from the long tube headers as the collectors hang a little too low for my liking. Yhanks up front to any suggestions.

I have flow tech shorty headers on mine. They are for a 67 Camaro/Chevelle. They tuck nicely and I have had no problems with the starter getting too hot.

Have you tried a smaller starter? I think there was a Corvette starter that is smaller so it would give you more clearance.

I have used a starter for a 1994 Caprice with a 4.3 V8 in the past on an S-10 drag truck with a small block. It worked great and was considerably smaller.

You could try putting some reflective thermal barrier fabric between the collector and starter. I had a similar issue on my Harley with the rear cylinder exhaust too close to the battery box. Put some DEI heat reflective fabric around the battery and no problems since.
