Committed to wheels & tires

After lots of research and consideration, I'm now committed to the new wheels and tires for my 1987 GMC. Going with Wheel Vintiques 37 series 15 x 8 up front with 235/70R15s and 15 x 10 out back with 275/60R15s. Gonna get them put on Saturday. Just had a new fresh 350 put under the hood. Notice the bumper doesn't hang straight, it got hit right on the driver side edge and bent/ twisted it up and in. Body man says it can't be straightened so I've got another one ready to hang still in the box. I'm also getting the grill repainted and cleared next week. Should look nice within a couple of weeks. Here's a pic taken just yesterday with my dad in there with the truck. He's giving the truck to my son in October. What a great grandpa!

Re: Committed to wheels & tires

Thanks. It's been a good one and we're gonna keep it on the road. It has 220K+ miles on it, but we just had a new 350 installed. New door panels, window channels, front bumper, wheels & tires and it should be slick. Not a show truck by any means, but looks good 10 feet away.

Re: Committed to wheels & tires

Well they're on. They fit fine and look nice with the derby cap, BUT my original trim rings fit the rear perfectly, but won't fit on the front. In fact, I scratched up one of my front wheels trying to get the ring to stay. Now, I need 2 new rings for the front and some argent silver paint to touch up the wheel. Ordered the rings already from Jeggs, but unsure about the paint. My friend with the boy shop laughed at me, then said it may be hard to match silvers.

Any suggestions or anyone know the paint code for Argent Silver?

I think they look good. I still cannot figure out why the original beauty rings fit the back, but not the front. The rims look exactly the same. Well, I ordered 2 new ones from Jeggs that were "guaranteed" to fit a 15x8 Vintiques 37 series rim. Should be in on Thursday and are supposed to cover the scratches that I made. I am sick over scratching my new rims, but if it doesn't show I can live with it.

2 of these ordered and should be in hand by next Thursday. I still don't know why they won't fit. Vintiques still says original rings will fit. Maybe it's the 4 inch backspacing, but I think they should make it known that could affect trim rings. Don't know exactly what I'll do if the new ones don't fit. Guess I'll take off the back ones, then repaint all 4 wheels so they'll match. Stuff like this worries me......I like it when things go as planned. They do look nice on the rear, I think.

Re: Committed to wheels & tires

Thank you. I think they look classy. I also like the factory ride height. I'm just sick over scratching the wheels. If the new rings don't fit, I think Vintiques should make it right, after all I scratched them trying to put on the factory rings that they advertised would fit. Worry worry worry!

Re: Committed to wheels & tires

I hope you did not buy the Wheel Vintiques brand trim rings. They do not fit well at all, scratched my new wheels up bad. I just went through this.

I have the 37 series as well and ended up getting the Summit brand trim rings, the medium dish, and they fit well and even were deep enough to cover the scratches made by the wheel vintiques rings. Cheaper also.

Re: Committed to wheels & tires

I think those are the exact ones I ordered. I better go to Summitt and see what else is available. Thanks so much!

Which Summits did you buy, if you remember? The 3 inch, 2.5 inch, or the 2 inch? Did not find medium dish, unless you meant the 2.5s. Again thanks, not too late to cancel/ change my order.

Re: Committed to wheels & tires

I used Summit part# SUM-55-2533V for my 15x7 and 15x8 37 series with 4" backspace.

The wheel vintiques brand will scratch your wheel down to metal and will not seat fully up to the outside edge of the wheel.

Re: Committed to wheels & tires

Thank you friend! Did those rings go up to the shoulder of the wheel or over the shoulder? My wheel is scratched on the shoulder and if the ring doesn't go over it, the scratches will show.

They go past the shoulder, just enough to hide the scratches

Re: Committed to wheels & tires

Whew, sounds GREAT! My dad took the truck out this morning for breakfast at MikkiD's and then on to get some gas. A guy followed him and told him that those wheels were cool and tried to buy the truck. He gets that a lot.

Hey Jake, those rings came in today and they don't fit either. Called Wheel Vintiques personally and told them that I was happy with the look, but was thoroughly PO'd because the factory AND Summit rings didn't fit AND now my rim is all chewed up. They asked for pictures, so I sent them some. Again, they said that factory rings should fit.

They are sending me 2 rings, free of charge, that are guaranteed to fit. The sales rep said that he would put them on on a 15x8 in the shop to make sure before they sent them out. Hopefully this will correct the problem.
